This course helps occupational therapists and assistants understand how to manage unilateral neglect as a result of brain damage to either the right or left hemispheres. Intervention strategies to optimize function will also be discussed. This entry-level to intermediate course is appropriate for occupational therapists and assistants.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, each learner will be able to:

1. Differentiate among various types of neglect and neglect and coexisting impairments.

2. Understand recovery patterns related to neglect.

3. Understand how everyday living is affected by neglect.

4. Be aware of evaluation/assessment procedures related to neglect.

5. Implement at least five intervention strategies focused on decreasing activity limitations and participation restrictions for those living with neglect.
